Les photographies de Ola Kolehmainen ont quelque chose de magique et de simple à la fois. Une belle leçon de minimalisme.
The photographs of Ola Kolehmainen have some things of magic and simple at the same time. A beautiful lesson of minimalism.
"Minimalism is my great love. In my works I concentrate on what is essential in a space, building or structure, leaving out things that are unnecessary, which I call visual noise. The original forms of my subjects often contain many repeated elements, a single form or material, often the same, in large quantities. When three-dimensional forms of this kind are photographed they tend to become surfaces, planes. The visual cleansing of a theme, its representation in a large-format photograph laminated on acrylic will, however, produce a new kind of multidimensional image of reality. The removal of noise will make some themes almost abstract constructions. In the finished work their essence wavers between three-dimensionality and the plane. Where the surface of a work reflects from a certain angle the architectonic state of its surroundings, the viewing situation is shaped by the viewer’s distance from the piece, his or her perspective. The work is transformed from a mirror-like plane into an image, then into space, and again into matter. With the volume of the work I want to pass on to the viewer my own cathartic experience of space." Info from Galerie Anhava Website

Nondesign
PAPER SPACE, 2005, design: Scott J. Franklin, flame retardant paper, glue, servos, conduit, styrofoam, LEDs, vibrating motors
"The objective of this exhibit was to create a breathing organism that would envelop the projects and viewers inside. Large bands of freshly made honeycomb were attached to a kinetic infrastructure that was suspended from the ceiling of the senior studio at Art Center. Wire-cut stryofoam "organs" were placed throughout the space. Touch sensors were located on both the organs and throughout the honeycomb, which communicated with each other through a microprocessor. When someone picked up an organ, the ceiling would contract like an intestine. Inversely when sensors on the honeycomb were touched, the organs would shake and illuminate. This created a cycle of interaction between the space and the objects and people within it." All information from Nondesign website.
BUBBLES, 2006, design: NONdesigns and FoxLin, Inc.
"This interactive installation is a spatially adaptable pneumatic environment at an urban scale. The installation consists of large air-bags or "bubbles" that inflate and deflate in reaction to the visitors coming to the site. As visitors enter and move through the installation, they must navigate the lightweight 8’ diameter spheres that fill the space. When the bubbles are bumped, sensors cause air to initiate a chaotic exchange of air between the spheres. When no visitors are present, the system will return to a state of equilibrium." Gerda Steiner & Jôrg Lenzlinger
Gerda Steiner & Jôrg Lenzlinger, Falling Garden, San Staë church on the Canale Grande, 50th Biennial of Venice, 2003
"The Doge (Mocenigo) needed a church so as to be able to have a monumental tomb built for himself, the church (San Staë) needed a saint so as to be able to be built, the saint (San Eustachio) needed a miracle so as to be pronounced a saint, the miracle needed a stag in order to be seen, and we built the garden for the reindeer. The visitors lie on the bed above the doge’s gravestone, and the garden thinks for them.
Components: Plastic berries (India), cow pads (Jura), waste paper (Venice), baobab seeds (Australia), beech, elder and magnolia branches (Uster), thorns (Almeria), nylon blossoms (one-dollar-shop), pigs’ teeth (Indonesia), seaweed (Seoul), orange peel (Migros shop), fertilizer crystals (home grown), pigeons’ bones (San Staë), silk buds (Stockholm), cattail (Ettiswil), cats’ tails (China), celery roots (Montreal), virility rind (Caribbean), wild bore quills (zoo), banana leaves (Murten), rubber snakes (Cincinnati)... "

"In the rain forest of the brain, the bio-diversity of thoughts proliferates and the intellect's short-circuits whirr in your eyes. Needless to say, as time goes by the circuits get tired and nervous; there are burn-outs and failures. But chance creates the most sparkling ideas."
Gerda Steiner & Jôrg Lenzlinger, Méta jardin, la maison rouge Paris, 2005

Beau travail répétitif inspiré de la collection et de l'organisation.
Beautiful repetitive work inspired by collection and organization.
''Collecting and organizing are means by which I make sense of the material life around me. My daily practice of collecting, sorting and then archiving everyday ephemera (post-it notes, envelopes, cards, receipts, found objects, tickets, tags, etc) fuels the cumulative multiple that is my installation work. I choose to exaggerate the already- amassed; calling attention to the quantity and banality that is our often-overlooked everyday. This exaggeration also calls to attention the method in which the collection is organized, stacked, separated and shelved. It is the repetitive nature of this order and the beauty that emanates from simplified and functional forms that engages me. My collages stem from an interest in consumer desires to purchase an organized lifestyle. I use catalogue glossies from Crate & Barrel, Ikea, Pottery Barn, and others to create a hybrid-form of organization that speaks about the many tastes and design influences surrounding our consumer culture.'' Very interesting project of interactive art.
"One in a series of interactive artworks using shadow tracking created by Zack Booth Simpson & Mine-Control in 2001. Colorful sand falls collects on the shadow. Belles images très significatives.
Beautiful and very significant images.
"Much has been written about Robert & Shana ParkeHarrison, the husband and wife team whose photographic tableaus took the art world by storm more than six years ago. Creating a genre unique within the photo world, the ParkeHarrisons construct fantasies in the guise of environmental performances for their Everyman – a man dressed in a black suit and starched white shirt – who interacts with the earths landscape. Tapping into their surreal imagination, the artists combine elaborate sets (which can take months to construct) and an impeccable sense of wit and irony, to address issues about the earth and mankind's responsibility to heal the damage he has done to its landscape." Tal Gur Design
"Tal Gur (b. 1962), a graduate of Bezalel’s Department of Industrial Design, 1996, became known in the last decade as one of Israel’s prominent designers in the area of plastic light fixtures and objects manufactured in the rotation technology. Part of the objects are produced as “home industry” in the studio at Kibbutz Gilgal in the Jordan Valley. Ever since he first embarked on his journeys to the Far East in 2000, particularly to Japan, Gur has been exploring various areas of craft in domains where design forms an integral part in a dynamic texture of life-culture. Gur’s present in situ environment was perceived while internalizing a process he dubs “erosion of goods” – an economic-social-political reality undergoing changes in the rules of world commerce: irregularity in the flow of supply of raw materials, the shifting of manufacturing areas to the Far East, transition from a working society to a production society, and the disappearance of no longer needed skilled craftsmen. Bowing encounters are woven in the exhibition into “working time.” The exhibition space teems with unidentified rustles. Abu Dawass, the broom maker from the village of Jiftlek (Jordan Valley, between Masoa and Hamra), is seen producing one broom in the course of three hours. “Abu Dawass time,” akin to the time of making an object in the rotation technology, is perceived as meditative time, “inefficient” in economic terms. In an age in which industrialists and manufacturers strive to increase the uniformity of goods, Gur persists on producing irregularity and poetic disparity in processes of industrial production and in processes of “home” production. "Seven leading Israeli designers were invited to create their own installation especially for this exhibition. The final results of this challenge reveal the thin line that "separates" design from "Art" which now-a-days are in a quick inclination to merge. "A Matter of Taste" includes a modular table and three chairs, all made from plywood. Each unit of the modular table has six peripheral hexagonal surfaces with a central one in a lower position, connected to a single leg. Fifteen such units show one of several possible combinations of a monumental table that relates to the specific space of the installation. The ergonometric chairs have a rocking-chair base and a diagonal back that reaches far beyond the seat. Their head part is freely cut to give a wave-like cavities on its top, the seat resembles a frontally open box." From Tal Gur Design Website
