J'ai eu la chance de lire le manuscrit de La Canicule des Pauvres. Je peux vous assurer que cette bande-annonce donne une excellente idée du rythme de ce livre de 680 pages : on ne peut tout simplement pas arrêter de le lire. Voici ce qu'en dit l'éditeur sur la quatrième de couverture :

Durant dix jours, une canicule sans précédent frappe Montréal. Le smog persistant s’immisce dans la conversation, s’ajoute aux thèmes récurrents de l’argent et du sexe. Les nantis climatisent leur maison, les pauvres endurent le calvaire. Au Galant, une ancienne maison de passe transformée en immeuble locatif, la vague de chaleur déferle comme un tsunami. Dans le climat surchauffé des appartements sordides se célèbre l’étrange carnaval qu’est la métropole contemporaine. Pour Zach le revendeur de drogue, Kaviak le pornographe, Sarah la tueuse à gages, Takao le bédéiste japonais, Lulu du groupe punk Claudette Abattage et une vingtaine d’autres personnages aussi tendres que cyniques, la vie dans ce monde trop jeune pour être vieux et trop usé pour être neuf, c’est la vie, sans mode d’emploi.

Dans cet imposant premier roman, Jean-Simon DesRochers réussit un tour de force : donner à lire une réalité aussi crue que drôle, un monde tellement vivant que sa décadence ne cesse de nous séduire.

'The book objects (...) are each made from pages of existing books removed from their bindings and rebound as one. Some of these series loosely relate to each other via a third element: geometrical shapes abstracted from the images, computer-edited, and overprinted on the originals. The disparate image stocks become intertwined and open on one another. Having transcended any thematic organization, the loose pages now have the potential to amalgamate into an infinite number of new books. In so doing, they yield a library that defies conventional categorization.'
