Splendid painting... Textures, colors, mix of medias...

Born in Miami into a family of Cuban exiles, José Parlá moved to Puerto Rico at a very early age before returning to Miami again when he was nine. He currently lives and works in New York, and only recently traveled to Cuba for the first time. His life, like his work, is therefore at once extremely particular and generally reflective of the wanderings of today's urban populations. In the context of these migrations and upheavals, Parlá is concerned with the way that cities function as palimpsests, upon which the experiences of those who pass through them are materially inscribed in decay, in writing, in the well-worn paths of their inhabitants. Parlá's work attempts to extract and synthesize fragments of these urban environments in flux and reproduce them using the materials and methods of architectural construction: cement, wood, vinyl as well as those of traditional art like paper, paint, powdered dye, wax, and ink. Yet because these fragments are inflected by the memories and experience of the artist, he considers them to be paintings in sense that is probably truer than one that refers merely to the physical presence of pigments and oil. Parlá describes the object of his method as segmented realities or memory documents. Leading these ideas to form a personal philosophy of his work he calls Contemporary Palimpsests. Each painting bears the name of the location or experience from which it draws its source.

360 Light Feild Display

Découverte très intéressante...
Very interesting discovery...

''We describe a set of rendering techniques for an autostereoscopic light field display able to present interactive 3D graphics to multiple simultaneous viewers 360 degrees around the display. The display consists of a high-speed video projector, a spinning mirror covered by a holographic diffuser, and FPGA circuitry to decode specially rendered DVI video signals. The display uses a standard programmable graphics card to render over 5,000 images per second of interactive 3D graphics, projecting 360-degree views with 1.25 degree separation up to 20 updates per second. We describe the system's projection geometry and its calibration process, and we present a multiple-center-of-projection rendering technique for creating perspective-correct images from arbitrary viewpoints around the display. Our projection technique allows correct vertical perspective and parallax to be rendered for any height and distance when these parameters are known, and we demonstrate this effect with interactive raster graphics using a tracking system to measure the viewer's height and distance. We further apply our projection technique to the display of photographed light fields with accurate horizontal and vertical parallax. We conclude with a discussion of the display's visual accommodation performance and discuss techniques for displaying color imagery.''

Belle poésie de la matière pauvre...
Beautiful poetry of the poor matter...

Occasionally, however, accumulation and multiplication -- both of which may be hard-wired into us -- overcome convention and carry you away. Multiplication connects us to infinity which connects us to our desire for it; repetition is reassuring, terrifying and mysterious all at once -- it is a field of dreams and a comfortable prison, part of the cosmic continuum, something that's been there since the beginning. Repetition is difference repeated within such narrow strictures that it opens new possibilities. At its best repetition conjures what Baudelaire called the "sacred machinery." That's why sometimes when rooms are filled with arrangements of objects, when configurations are fashioned from hundreds, thousands or even millions of similar things, repetition turns metaphysical, obsession and process become transcendental, and magic happens. Georges Rousse

''L’artiste intervient dans des espaces voués à disparaître ou à être réaménagés. Dans ces lieux, il envisage une forme simple et monumentale,le plus souvent une figure géométrique, qu’il reproduit à même l’espace en peignant directement dans le lieu ou parfois en découpant les parois et les sols. Cette forme n’est visible que d’un seul point de vue, celui de l’appareil photo qui fige et immortalise l’installation.''Jordi Gourbeix, Volumes imaginaires, Revoir Foto

In the photographs of Van DER Sam, architecture becomes a pattern, an impression...

''Frank van der Salm’s pictures generate distrust. Architecture and trees are depicted as hazy, maquette-like blocks and mossy, plastic clutters ; hyper-realistically represented, overwhelming architecture seems unreal. There is an alternation of unfocused and crystal-clear shots. Confusion. Deception in observation. This work relies on perception.''

''In my work, I transform elements from my surroundings into interconnected, fantastical landscapes. By removing these structures and objects from their familiar contexts and making them interact, I redefine their roles and relationships. I assemble these objects—individually enlivened by imagination and focused research—into a variety of scenes. There, the real and unreal resemble and reflect one another.''

Bio Wall by Loop

Belle idée ce mur vivant!
Beautiful idea this alive wall!

''BioWall is a hand woven three-dimensional structure that can be crafted into lace-like walls of any dimension. Springy fiberglass rods are bowed into rings and woven into several dodecahedra that in turn are joined together. The woven fibres create a balance between the rigidity of sheet material and the flexibility of a textile. The structure is based on the principle of self-similarity enabling it to work from the nano to the macro scale. It can be seen in our natural environment in the formation of bubbles, living cells and water molecules.''
