« For this body of work I went to an English wood to record different ’natural’ sounds, the ones unique to that landscape. Then I went to an equivalent location in my homeland, Russia and made 6 sculptural interpretations of the English sounds. These objects are manifestations of sound waves, and they float their tacit information in a similar, but very different landcsape. »
Tviga, soundstills 0.00001
«The white forms in these photographs are the sculptural manifestations of audio footage that was recorded along the border between Russia and Finland. Here the unique old-growth forests stand, The Green Belt of Fennoscandia. Recently these ancient trees are being logged for their valuable timber. There are only few remaining areas of ancient forest in Europe with the vast majority of the vanishing old-growth forests remaining are in the North of European Russia.
The soundwaves are actual objects, each is 6 metres high, reminiscent of the height of a tree, despite looking like digital intervention. I recorded them when the forest was still there. Then, when the trees had gone, I put the ‘sounds’ back to where they used to exist, sounds that look like trees that will never be heard again.»

J'aimerais bien voir ce système à l'oeuvre...
I would like to see this system in work...
"Hektor is a portable Spray-Paint Output Device for laptop computers. It was created in close collaboration with engineer Uli Franke for Jürg Lehni's diploma project at écal (école cantonale d'art de Lausanne) in 2002.
Hektor’s light and fragile installation consists only of two motors, toothed belts and a can holder that handles regular spray cans. The can is moved along drawing paths just as the human hand or old plotters would. During operation, the mechanism sometimes trembles and wobbles, and the paint often drips. The contrasts between these low-tech aspects and the high-tech touch of the construction hold ambiguous and poetic qualities and make Hektor enjoyable to watch in action."
"Jürg Lehni is an independent designer, developer and artist. His self-initiated work originates from reflections about tools, the computer and the way we work with and adapt to technology."

Intéressante visite des lieux...
Interesting visit of the places...
"Interesting video of Fallingwater in Bear Run, Pennsylvania that was produced using the Half Life 2 Source gaming engine. The Google Sketchup version can be found here. Needless to say, these three dimensional models would seem to be highly pragmatic devices for teaching Architecture in primary, secondary and post-secondary school environments. Something that is lost when viewing either pictures or slides in an academic presentation and can not be viewed first hand due to budget and/or time constraints in one's academic schedule."

Pe Lang + Zimoun, Untitle sound object (installation)
"At the outset of 2004, Pe Lang and Zimoun start their joint project «Untitled Sound Objects, based on work with materials brought to sound through vibration. They focus on creating acoustic architecture with an organic feel, investigating properties of sound, materials, resonance properties and generative systems. The work is presented as sound installations and as live performances."

Que deviendra la musique dans le future?
What will become the music in the future?
"The reactable is a multi-user electro-acoustic music instrument with a tabletop tangible user interface. Several simultaneous performers share complete control over the instrument by moving physical artefacts on the table surface and constructing different audio topologies in a kind of tangible modular synthesizer or graspable flow-controlled programming language."
